Sicily is one of the pearls of Southern Italy, a real mix of nature, history and traditions. After some 25 centuries of foreign domination, Sicilians are heir to an impressive cultural legacy, from the refined architecture of Magna Graecia to a beguiling, if contradictory, artistic fusion of Arab craftsmanship and Norman austerity. This complexity of culture is matched by a startling diversity of landscape that includes the smouldering Mt Etna and an aquamarine coastline.
This time I take into consideration the Southwestern coast, renowned for Agrigento, one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily rising on a plain sheer above the sea, and for Selinunte.
Talking about hotels in this area I would suggest Verdura Golf & Spa Resort a lush oasis amidst olive and orange groves. The resort, whit its modern architecture and minimalist design strike a compelling contrast with the old-world style of Sicily. Here you can find four restaurants under the direction of Michelin-starred chef, Fulvio Pierangelini; a spa with four outdoor thalassotherapy pools, an indoor pool and a spacious fitness area; two Kyle Phillips–designed 18-hole championship golf courses; tennis courts and football pitch.
The resort is set over 230 hectares of stunning landscape with 1.8km of private coastline, yet has just 203 rooms and suites, giving a true sense of space and privacy.
There are ten meeting rooms in total, seven of which measure between 43 and 112 sq m each, a double-height ballroom for up to 300 guests which can be divided into three separate rooms, two larger rooms for up to 150 guests each and a 1000 sq m open-air amphitheatre.
Talking about venues for you gala dinner I would suggest Castello Chiaramonte, situated in the homonymous town, dominating the village and the valley that lies gently on the Mediterranean sea, with its splendid dining rooms and its traditional Mediterranean cuisine, the perfect place for your event.
Another enchanting location is Villa Parlapiano, dating 19th century partially a noble residence, partially a farmhouse it has big indoor and outdoor spaces up to 800 people and an Arabic atmosphere with a wonderful panoramic position.
Talking about Team Building, why not taking into consideration the “Mafia Olympics”, a unique and interactive way to explore any Sicilian city trying to find out the traitor hidden in your Family.
Furthermore, why not considering some cooking tasks as the preparation of the cannoli, or the making of one of the most typical Sicilian dishes known as “Parmigiana”. A great way to get into Sicilian food and culture.
For you sightseeing you cannot miss the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, one of the most important archeological sites in the world and a Unesco world heritage site since 1998 and Selinunte, the most important archaeological park in the Mediterranean area, where, within the frame of a suggestive landscape, you will find the temples, the fortifications, the towers of the ancient Greek town destroyed by the Carthaginians in the fifth century b. C.
Next time, from this wonderful island to one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Greetings from Sicily!
